AUTHOR NOTE
The transition from academic life to professional life can be both exciting and uncertain. Students frequently possess knowledge and enthusiasm, but may not always know how to convert those qualities into a structured career strategy. This book emerged from the belief that students deserve practical guidance that connects what they learn academically with the decisions they must make in the real world. One of the ideas that strongly influenced my contribution to this work is the distinction between activity and progress. A student may send dozens of applications, attend several interviews and spend hours preparing, yet still lack a clear understanding of whether those efforts are moving in the right direction. Strategic career development requires a different question: What evidence do I have that my current actions are contributing towards the career I actually want? This is why the roadmap approach is valuable. It encourages the reader to break a large and often intimidating objective into smaller, identifiable stages. Self-assessment can lead to target selection. Target selection can lead to skill-gap analysis. Skill development can lead to stronger professional evidence. Evidence can strengthen applications and interviews. Each stage can therefore support the next.
